■ All nodes provisioned externally timed: This configuration (Figure 5-25)

is for users with BITS or stratum 1 traceable clocks at all nodes in the ring.

At least one node must be externally timed with a stratum 1 traceable

source that is not derived from the ring. This node provides the timing

signal that is distributed to some or all of the remaining nodes. At the

remaining nodes, timing signals are provided to and received from a BITS

clock. All nodes must be provisioned externally timed in this configuration

or timing loops will occur. Figure 5-26 shows a ring application in this

configuration with one node provisioned through timed and the resulting

timing loop.

Timing signal input/output interfaces must be consistent. All nodes with

BITS clocks must use the primary timing interface (TIMING IN PRI and

TIMING OUT 1),

all nodes with BITS clock must use the secondary

timing interface (TIMING IN SECY and TIMING OUT 2). Figure 5-27 shows

a ring application in this configuration with inconsistent timing interfaces

and the resulting timing loop.
