DS3 Line/Path 9
The following DS3 line/path parameters are monitored:
â–  DS3LineErroredSeconds(ES-L): An errored second (ES) is a second in
which there are one or more B3ZS coding violations or a DS3 LOS defect
detected in the DS3 signal input from the cross-connect panel.
â–  DS3 Path Coding Violations (CV-P): To monitor the performance of the
DS3 path, the P-bit parity of the DS3 signal received from the OC-48 line is
calculated, written, and checked for errors. Path coding violation may be
based on P bits or F and M framing bits (provisionable on a per DS3 basis).
The F and M bit error counts are adjusted to estimate the equivalent P-bit
error count in the DS3 path payload. This may be used as an approximate
end-to-end DS3 path performance measure, even if the path passes
through intermediate equipment that corrects P-bit errors. For more
information about provisioning the DS3 performance-monitoring mode,
refer to Volume I, Section 8, "Administration and Provisioning."
â–  DS3 Path Errored Seconds (ES-P): An errored second (ES) is a second
in which there are one or more DS3 coding violations, one or more DS3
path AIS defects, or one or more DS3 path LOF defects detected in the
DS3 signal received from the OC-48 line.
â–  DS3 Path Severely Errored Seconds (SES-P): A severely errored
second (SES) is a second in which there are 44 or more DS3 coding
violations, one or more DS3 path AIS defects, or one or more DS3 path
LOP defects in the DS3 signal received from the OC-48 line.
â–  DS3 Path Severely Errored Frame/AIS Seconds (SAS-P): A severely
errored frame/AIS second (SAS) is a second in which there is an
out-of-frame or AIS defect detected in the DS3 signal received from the
OC-48 line.
â–  DS3 Path Unavailable Seconds (UAS-P): An unavailable second (UAS)
is a second during which the DS3 path is "unavailable." Unavailable
seconds are counted after 10 consecutive DS3 path severely errored
seconds (SES). These 10 severely errored seconds are counted, and each
subsequent second is counted until there are 10 consecutive seconds
without a severely errored second. The 10 consecutive seconds without a
severely errored second are not counted as unavailable seconds.
A threshold crossing alert (TCA) is generated if a DS3 line/path parameter
exceeds the provisionable threshold. The generation of TCAs can be enabled or
disabled using the PERFORMANCE-Set-PM Threshold-T3 input.
