Context-Sensitive Help 11
Help for inputs is provided in three forms:
1. Message Line Help — This appears near the bottom of the screen
immediately above the display of the function keys. This line provides
procedural information, status of the FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave System, or
yes/no response information; for example, "Highlight the desired
item and press return to select"or"Execution in
progress".
2. Function key F1 Help — When function key F1 is labeled HELP, it can be
pressed to display a context-sensitive description of the highlighted menu
item, parameter, notice frame, etc.
3. Question mark (?)Help— When a parameter is highlighted in a parameter
frame, a menu of allowable values (point-and-shoot) or the parameter
range is displayed when a question mark (?) or a wrong value is entered.
CIT Function Keys 11
The function keys, F1 through F9, displayed at the bottom of the screen provide a
particular function when labeled. The nine function keys are available to expedite
certain operations. All function keys are not active at all times. An active function
key is shown by its label. Inactive function keys are not labeled. The function of a
function key may vary with time and this is indicated by changes in the labeling.
When labeled HELP, context-sensitive information is available for the
highlighted menu item. By pressing the F1 key, this additional and specific
information is displayed.
When labeled REMOTE in the local only state or session, this key initiates
a connection to a remote FT-2000 network element. F2 is labeled
REMOTE in the local state and LOCAL in the remote state, thereby
allowing local/remote toggling.
When labeled OUTPUT, this key clears the screen of menus and
parameter frames so the output frame can be viewed. By pressing F3
again (now labeled INPUT), the screen is restored with the menus or
parameter frames. This capability is particularly useful while entering
parameters because the user can review information that was displayed
just previously, and then resume the entry of parameters from the same
point, without repeating what has already been done.
When labeled DIAL in the local connect state, this key allows the user to
enter control data for a modem.
When labeled BREAK in the dial state, this key sends a break character to
the communications port.
