Control, Transmission, and Synchronization Interfaces
5-8 Issue 8.0 July 2002
Switching and bridging circuitry within the OC48 TRMTR, OC48 RCVR, and low
speed interface circuit packs allow cross-connections to be specified. In the
transmit direction, a low speed interface circuit pack bridges a 155 Mb/s signal to
both OC48 TRMTR circuit packs. The user-specified cross-connections
determine which OC48 TRMTR circuit pack selects the 155 Mb/s signal for
transmission. In the receive direction, a low speed interface circuit pack selects a
155 Mb/s signal from one OC48 RCVR circuit pack based on the user specified
cross-connections. For more information about the OC48 TRMTR, OC48 RCVR,
and low speed interface circuit packs, refer to Volume I, Section 7, "Circuit Pack
Descriptions."
In Release 5 and later releases, the FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal for
2-Fiber Rings also provides limited support for STS-1 cross-connections across
an STS-3 tributary.
In Release 7 and later releases, the FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal for
2-Fiber Rings also provides support for STS-1 cross-connections across an
OC-48 signal.
The FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal for 2-Fiber Rings also has the
capability to provide
extra traffic
. Extra traffic allows access to the protection
STS-3 tributaries for low priority traffic or for restoration purposes.
Cross-connections can be made using the CIT interface. In Release 4.1 and later
releases, cross-connections can also be made through the message-based
operations system interface using X.25 protocol and Transaction Language 1
(TL1) messages. For more information about cross-connections, refer to
Volume 1, Section 8, "Administration and Provisioning."
