When a signal degrade or signal fail defect is detected by the east OC48 RCVR
(A/D) circuit pack at node 0, the following occurs:
■ The east OC48 RCVR (A/D) circuit pack notifies the LNCTL circuit pack.
■ The LNCTL circuit pack enters a protection switch request and the
provisionable alarm delay interval is started. After the alarm delay interval
is reached, the autonomous indicators are enabled. The LNCTL circuit
pack also notifies the west OC48 TRMTR (A/D) circuit pack.
■ The west OC48 TRMTR (A/D) circuit pack transmits a switch request to the
other nodes in the ring using the automatic protection switch (APS)
channel on OC-48 high-speed line 1W.
Nodes 2 and 3 are not actively involved in 2-fiber ring protection switching and are
referred to as intermediate nodes. At nodes 2 and 3, the following occurs:
■ The east OC48 RCVR (A/D) circuit pack receives the switch request via the
APS channel and notifies the LNCTL circuit pack.
