System Introduction
1-2 Issue 8.0 July 2002
The 2000 Product Family, along with the
5ESS
â
-2000 switch, provides the
significant elements of the Lucent Technologies Service Net-2000 Architecture.
Service Net-2000 Architecture furnishes increased network capabilities with
standard interfaces, increased bandwidth for end-customer services, faster
provisioning, and more robust networks.
What Is the FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave
System? 1
The FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave System is a flexible, high capacity lightwave
system that transports digitally encoded information through single-mode optical
fibers at the SONET OC-48 signal level of 2.5 Gb/s (up to 32,256 voice channels).
The FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave System consists of several platforms. A platform is
a family of equipment and software configurations designed to support a particular
set of applications. These platforms include the:
FT-2000 OC-48 Dual Lightwave Terminating Bay
FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal
FT-2000 OC-48 Repeater Bay.
NOTE:
The FT-2000 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal has been rated discontinued
availability (DA) as of December 31, 1999. Information regarding the
ADR Terminal will remain in this user/service manual for those
terminals still in use.
The different platforms enable the FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave System to offer
flexible features for different applications in high capacity loop, interoffice,
outstate, and long-haul environments, and to provide different sets of features.
The FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave System software enables the platforms to be
upgraded with new features when they become available. Figure 1-1 shows one
equipment package of the FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal platform. For
more information about the FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal and
FT-2000 OC-48 Repeater Bay platforms, refer to Volume I, Section 3, "Platform
Descriptions."
The FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave System transports up to 48 DS3 equivalent
signals over the OC-48 line. It supports a mix of DS3, electrical carrier level 1
(EC-1), OC-3, IS-3, and OC-12 low-speed interfaces. The OC-3, IS-3, and OC-12
low-speed interfaces support optical extensions. The electrical DS3 and EC-1
low-speed interfaces are 1xM (M16) protected. Both the OC-3 and IS-3
interfaces may be provisioned for either 0x1 protection or 1+1 protection. While,
(with Release 7.1.0) the OC-12 interface may be provisioned for 0x1 protection
with DCC, or for 1+1 protection without DCC.
