OC-12/IS-3 Specific Information 9
The following is required for 1+1 OC-12 line protection:
■ Two adjacent slots (for example, LS INTFC slot 2A and 2B) of the Low
Speed Shelf - System Controller must be equipped (EQ state) with the
same OC12 Optical Interface - 1.3µm Standard Performance [OC12
(1.3 STD)] circuit packs (either LAA10 or LAA10B, but not a mix of the
two). The Low Speed Shelf - System Controller can be equipped with 8 1+1
protected OC12 (1.3 STD) circuit packs, or 16 unprotected OC12 circuit
packs, or a mixture of protected and unprotected OC12 (1.3 STD) circuit
packs.
■ The OC12 Protection Mode parameter of both slots must be provisioned
"1+1" using the CONFIGURATION-Set-OC12 input. To provision for “1+1”
configuration, both slots MUST be equipped with either the OC-12
(1.3 STD) LAA10 circuit pack or the OC-12 (1.3 STD) LAA10B circuit pack
(but not a mix of the two). For example, a “1+1” configuration will not work if
slot 2A is equipped with an LAA10 circuit pack, while slot 2B is equipped
with an LAA10B circuit pack. The OC12 Protection Mode parameter has
separate values for the add (OC-12 to OC-48) and drop (OC-48 to OC-12)
directions. For information about provisioning the OC12 Protection Mode
parameter, refer to the information describing the CONFIGURATION-Set-
OC12 input in Volume I, Section 8, "Administration and Provisioning."
■ One slot of the slot pair must be cross-connected to a service STS-3
tributary using the CONFIGURATION-Enter-Crossconnection-STS3
input. In Release 7 and later releases, one port of the slot pair must be
cross-connected to a service STS-1 tributary using the CONFIGURATION-
Enter-Crossconnection-STS1 input. The FT-2000 OC-48
Add/Drop-Rings Terminal automatically enters an active cross-connection
between one slot of the slot pair and an STS-3 tributary, and a standby
cross-connection between the companion slot and the same STS-3
tributary. The slot pair cannot be cross-connected to different STS-3
tributaries. In Release 7 and later releases, the FT-2000 OC-48
Add/Drop-Rings Terminal automatically enters an active cross-connection
between one port of the slot pair and an STS-1 tributary, and a standby
cross-connection between the same port of the companion slot and the
same STS-1 tributary. The ports cannot be cross-connected to different
STS-1 tributaries. For information about entering cross-connections, refer
to Volume I, Section 8, "Administration and Provisioning."
Unprotected (0x1) OC-12 line operation results when one or more of the following
occur:
■ The slot and/or the adjacent slot is equipped (EQ state) with DS3 or STS1E
circuit packs, or is in the AUTO state.
■ The OC12 Protection Mode parameter of the slot and/or the adjacent slot is
provisioned "0x1" using the CONFIGURATION-Set-OC12 input.
■ The slot (or port) and the adjacent slot (or port) are cross-connected to
different tributaries.
