Applications
2-20 Issue 8.0 July 2002
Each interconnecting FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal accepts an EC-1
signal from a DACS IV-2000 Cross-Connect System and routes the EC-1 signal to
the terminating node. For example, in Figure 2-9, two separate STS-3 (Release
4.0 and later) or STS-1 (Release 7 and later) signals are routed from the
interconnecting nodes (nodes 8 and 9) to the terminating node (node 10). In
Release 4.0 and later releases, two separate STS-3 signals are routed using
two-way STS-3 cross-connections at the FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings
Terminals. In Release 7 and later releases, two separate STS-1 signals may be
routed using two-way STS-1 cross-connections at the FT-2000 OC-48
Add/Drop-Rings Terminals. Cross-connections can be made, using the CIT or
message-based operations system interface. The message-based operations
system interface uses X.25 protocol and TL1 messages. For more information
about cross-connections, refer to Volume I, Section 8, “Administration and
Provisioning.”
The dual-wire center architecture protects against facility failures, node failures,
and interconnection failures. A failure in one ring or a single simultaneous failure
in each ring is automatically healed and service is reestablished in ≤60
milliseconds (includes detection and switching times). This results in a highly
reliable network.
Any failures on the OC-48 bidirectional line-switched ring are protected by the
FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal using two-fiber ring protection
switching. For more information about two-fiber ring protection switching, refer to
Volume I, Section 9, "Maintenance Description."
Any failures in the OC-3 path-switched rings or in the interconnections between
the rings (for example, a DACS IV-2000 Cross-Connect System failure) are
protected by the DDM-2000 Multiplexers using path-protection switching. For
more information about the DDM-2000 Multiplexers, VT1.5 and STS-1
cross-connections, and path-protection switching, refer to 363-206-200,

In Release 6 and later releases, the FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal
provides single-ended operation capabilities through the OC-3 DCC. For more
information about the single-ended operation capabilities, refer to the “Operations
Interworking” application in this section. For more information about operations
interworking between the FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave System and the DDM-2000
Multiplexers, refer to 824-102-147,
