GL-13
NMON
Not Monitored A memory administrative state for ports. This refers to a port that is not monitored
and will not transition to the IS state if a good signal is detected.
Node ID
Node Identifier See NID.
Nonautonomous Indicators
The nonautonomous indicators are those indicators that are not subject to incoming signal alarm
delay. These indicators include the circuit pack FAULT LEDs, all CIT reports, TBOS alarm and sta-
tus points, TL1 command response messages, and the LEDs on the user panel (except CR, MJ,
and MN).
Non-Preemptible Protection Access
Available on a per STS-3 tributary basis. This feature increases a nodes "service traffic" capacity
at the expense of reducing bandwidth on the protection fiber. Tributaries that are used this way are
themselves "non-protected" and are not preempted in the advent of a switch from the service fiber
to the protection fiber.
Nonrevertive Switching
In nonrevertive switching, there is an active and standby line, circuit pack, etc. When a protection
switch occurs, the standby line, circuit pack, etc., is selected causing the old standby line, circuit
pack, etc., to become the new active line, circuit pack, etc. The original active line, circuit pack,
etc., becomes the standby line, circuit pack, etc. This status remains in effect when the fault clears.
Therefore, this protection scheme is "nonrevertive" in that there is no switch back to the original sta-
tus in effect before the fault occurred.
NRZ
Nonreturn to Zero.
NSA
Non-Service Affecting.
NSAP
AddressNetwork Services Access Point Address An automatically assigned number that
uniquely identifies a Network Element for the purpose of routing DCC messages.
Null Modem
A null modem cable allows a CIT local access to the FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave System via the DTE
port on the interconnection panel of the Low Speed Shelf - System Controller or Repeater Shelf -
System Controller.
O
O&M
Operation and Maintenance.
OALAN
Overhead Access Local Area Network The internal local area network that provides communica-
tions between the System Controller circuit pack and the Overhead Controller circuit pack.
OAM&P
Operations, Administration, Maintenance, and Provisioning.
