Pre-start Daily Checks
Engine oil
Check the engine oil level with the dipstick
daily. (top photo).
1. Remove the dipstick (top photo) and check
the oil level.
Make sure the dipstick is
completely pushed into the housing before
you remove it to get an accurate reading.
2.
Check the oil level (middle drawing),
verifying that the oil level is between ADD
and the top of the cross-hatch area on the
dipstick.
3. If below the ADD mark, add oil as needed
(bottom photo) (see Chapter 19, Fuel and
Lubricants, for oil recommendations).
4.
Make sure the cap is securely replaced
and the dipstick back in its housing.
5. Watch for leaks.
IMPORTANT! Do NOT operate the
engine when the oil level is below the ADD
mark on the dipstick.
