Hydraulic System Service Self-Propelled Peanut Combine
General Information
The combine hydraulic system is an open
center system. In this type of system, the
pump runs continuously,
even when the
system components are not activated (system
is in neutral). When the system is in neutral,
oil flows through the system and back to the
reservoir the “open center” feature.
Components
Two reservoirs. The following two reservoirs
are part of the hydraulic system:
The hydraulic/hydrostat reservoir, which
supplies oil for the hydraulic, header drive,
and hydrostatic systems.
The steering/engine gear case reservoir,
which supplies oil for the steering,
separator engage wet clutch, and gear
case lubrication systems.
Two coolers. Each reservoir
has its own oil
cooler. Oil cooler bypass valves provide quick
warm-up of the oil in cold weather.
Three oil filters
. These three filters provide
filtration for the hydrostatic system, the
steering/engine gear case system, and the
combine return oil fro
m the hydraulic and
header drive systems. If the combine is
equipped with the Off-
load Conveying System
(OCS) option, the combine has a fourth filter.
Four pumps. The four pumps supply oil to the
steering/engine gear case system, hydraulic
system and th
e header drive system. The
hydrostatic system uses its own charge pump
to supply oil to the hydrostatic unit. If the
combine is equipped with the OCS option, the
fourth pump is used. I
f not equipped with
OSC, then the pump is plumbed into a loop.
IMPORTANT! Your machine was
delivered with all hydraulic hoses correctly
routed and attached. If the basket (or
conveyor if you have OCS) needs to be
removed for some reason, make sure the
hoses are correctly routed again before
operating the machine.
Refer to Appendix E - Routing Hydraulic
Hoses in the Appendices for instructions
on routing the hoses.
WARNING
If one reservoir overfills and the other
drains suddenly without explanation, it is
possible that a seal between the two
pumps is damaged. Do NOT operate the
combine until the condition has been
corrected. Serious damage to the
components and/or loss of steering could
occur.
IMPORTANT! The components in this
system are built to very close tolerances
and have been adjusted at the factory. Do
NOT attempt to service these components
except to maintain proper oil level and to
change oil and filters. See your
AMADAS/John Deere dealer for all other
service.
CAUTION
It is normal for the system to allow a raised
feeder house (with or without a header) to
slowly lower to the ground after a long
period of time. Always use safety stop
when machine is unattended, or lower the
feeder house
and/or header completely
down. If the feeder house should lower
itself to the ground in less than 12 hours
(approximately) see your AMADAS/John
Deere dealer.
