Performance 9980 Self-Propelled Peanut Combine
Dual Speed Picking
Cylinder Drive
The dual speed picking cylinder drives allow
variance of picking cylinder speed beyond
what is available using the 10% speed
reduction control. The low speed setting can
offer superior performance in very dry or
brittle conditions. This setting causes less
shelling and reduces the amount the hay is
torn.
Starting Position: Always start with the dual
speed drives in the fastest position. Do not
change over to the low speed setting until
you have tried the 10% speed reduction and
have backed off all of the breast springs and
the picking control board. The fastest
position is with the drive chain on the larger
jack shaft sprocket cylinder.
Adjustments
: When dry or brittle conditions
require even less aggressive thrashing than
the 10% speed reduction can provide, it is
advisable to stop the machine and switch the
dual speed picking cylinder sprockets to the
low speed setting. Resume operation with
the 10% speed reduction disengaged.
CAUTION
The slow speed setting can greatly
increase torque loads on the picking
cylinder assemblies, so it is very important
never to run the slow speed setting in
green or tough vine conditions, as the
combine may be damaged.
WARNING
Do NOT make this adjustment with the
machine or engine running!
NOTE! Switching to the low speed picking
cylinder drives requires moving the main
drive chain from the largest to the smallest
sprocket on the main jack shaft.
