Electrical System Service 9980 Self-Propelled Peanut Combine
Prevent Battery Explosions
•
Keep sparks, lighted matches, and open
flame away from the top of the battery.
Battery gas can explode.
• Never check a battery’s charge by placing
a metal object across the posts. Use a
volt-meter or hydrometer.
• Always remove grounded (-) battery clamp
first and replace it last.
Safe Battery Installation
•
Batteries must be on a flat surface to
accurately and safely check fluid levels.
Battery
fluid level should be visible at the
top of each fill port covering the plates in
each cell.
•
Avoid serious injury or death from
explosions. High levels of hydrogen gas
can accumulate if the battery box is not
vented properly. Always reinstall the vent
tubes (see photo) after performing service
or maintenance on the batteries or the
battery box. Verify that the ventilation
hoses are not bent or kinked.
