FT-Lightwave Booster Amplifier (FT-LBA) for
Extended Distances 2
The FT-LBA can be used with the FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal
equipped with Release 5.0.1-ADR or later software to extend the distance
between sites (Figure 2-16). The FT-LBA is a miscellaneously-mounted shelf that
provides optical amplifiers. The optical amplifiers supply 9, 12, or 16 dBm of
optical output power.

The FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal and FT-LBA support span lengths
up to 140 km using standard fiber or 160 km using dispersion-shifted fiber. This
capability reduces the number of repeater sites on long routes. This capability
also allows the FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal and FT-LBA to be used
with poor fiber or fiber that has frequent, high-loss splices (for example, in urban
areas) or with dispersion-shifted fiber and terrestrial electronics (for example,
underwater/sea applications).
