Issue 8.0, July 2002 Page 3 of 4
3.
!
CAUTION:
If an incoming OC3 LOS or incoming OC12 LOS condition exists prior to
setting the Alarm Level to NO, this condition will not disappear after the Alarm
Level is set to NO. Only subsequent conditions will be subdued (not reported).
The user may clear the condition by temporarily providing a good input signal
until the condition clears or by reseating the OC3 or OC12 circuit pack. Only
reseat the circuit pack if you are sure there is no live traffic on the outgoing fiber;
otherwise, service interruption will occur.
Is the incoming signal failure an incoming (from DSX) LOS, incoming (from
STSX) EC1 LOS, incoming OC3 LOS, incoming OC12 LOS, incoming
OC-48 LOS,orincoming sync ref failure?
If YES, then continue with Step 4.
If NO, then continue with Step 8.
4. Make a visual inspection of the incoming signal cable(s) and connection(s)
and correct any problems found.
Reference: DLP-528
If a visual inspection does not reveal any problems, you may consider
making an optical or electrical measurement per local operating instruc-
tions.
Suggestion 1: OC-3/OC-12/OC-48 optical lines can be tested by using
an optical line meter and/or an optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR)
to help locate a fiber bend or cut.
Suggestion 2: Low-speed signals (DS3/EC-1/OC-3/OC-12) can be
tested by using a transmitter/receiver test set.
Suggestion 3: Sync reference cables can be tested by using a DS1 error
rate test set (ERTS) to verify the DS1 signal.
5. At the CIT, select FAULT-Retrieve-Alarms (and Status) to obtain the
Active Alarms and Status Report.
6. Referring to the report obtained in Step 5, is the same incoming signal failure
still listed?
If YES, then replace the receive circuit pack indicated in the
FAULT-Retrieve-Alarms (and Status) report from Step 5.
If NO, then STOP! YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS PROCEDURE.
