Clear Potential Loss of Service Due to Double
Failure
Overview: This procedure is used to clear an obscure double failure state which can,
under some conditions, result in a potential loss of service. This procedure must not
be used unless one of the specific double failure conditions identified in Steps 2
through 5 is present. Because a wide variety of specific failure messages could be
associated with this double failure condition, this procedure is written in more general
terms than some other trouble clearing procedures.
1. Is Release 5 or later software running in the network element?
If YES, then continue with Step 2.
If NO, then continue with Step 6.
2. Was there a loss of -48 V power to either the high-speed shelf or to the entire
bay followed by a line failure on one of the spans terminated by this network
element?
If YES, then continue with Step 8.
If NO, then continue with Step 3.
3. Was there a line failure on one of the spans terminated by this network ele-
ment followed by a loss of -48 V power to either the high-speed shelf or to the
entire bay, followed, in turn, by a clearing of the loss of -48 V power?
If YES, then continue with Step 8.
If NO, then continue with Step 4.
4. Was there a line failure on one of the spans terminated by this network ele-
ment, followed by a reset of an OHCTL circuit pack for any reason, followed, in
turn, by a hardware reset of an east-facing TRMTR, RCVR or an LS INTFC
cross-connected to an east-facing tributary?
If YES, then continue with Step 8.
If NO, then continue with Step 5.
