Verify FT-2000 Network Element Is Connected
Overview: This procedure is used to verify that all the network elements are
connected in an FT-2000 network.

WARNING:
Unterminated optical connectors may emit invisible laser radiation. Eye
damage may occur if the beam is viewed directly or with improper optical
instruments. Avoid direct exposure to beam.
!
CAUTION:
Use a static ground wrist strap whenever handling circuit packs or
working on an FT-2000 network element to prevent electrostatic
discharge damage to sensitive components.
1. You are located at which FT-2000 network element?
If at FT-2000 add/drop-rings terminal, then continue with Step 2.
If at FT-2000 repeater bay/shelf, then continue with Step 25.

2. Remove the front cover from the high-speed shelf.

3. Is there a lightguide jumper equipped with an optical buildout (20 dB for loop-
back testing) or equivalent connected between the OUT connector of the
TRMTR circuit pack and the IN connector of RCVR circuit pack for line 1W?
If NO, then continue with Step 7.
If YES, then continue with Step 4.
4. Remove the loopback lightguide jumper between the optical connectors of the
TRMTR and RCVR circuit packs for line 1W.
5. Remove the 20-dB buildout (or equivalent) from the RCVR circuit pack but not
the 0-dB buildout from the TRMTR circuit pack.
6. Install protector caps (if available) over the fiber ends of the lightguide jumper
that was used in the loopback.
