Verify STS-1 Path Trace
Overview: This procedure is used to verify the provisioned values of the transmit
and receive path trace fields for one or more 1 way STS-1 signals of a DS3 circuit
pack. It is also used to verify that the actual receive path trace agrees with the
provisioned receive path trace. This procedure can be performed from any network
element in an FT-2000 network. For non-DS3 signals, a monitoring arrangement is
described in DLP-543.
1. If required, condition the craft interface terminal (CIT) and connect it to the
local FT-2000 network element.
Reference: DLP-501
2. Do you wish to verify the provisioned values of the transmit and receive path
trace fields for one or more STS-1 signals?
If YES, then continue with Step 3.
If NO, then continue with Step 17.
Verify Provisioned Values
3. From office records, determine which FT-2000 network elements are the
source network element and the destination network element for the STS-1
path(s)tobeverified.
4. From office records, determine the path trace character string to be observed
for each 1 way STS-1 path to be verified. (Path is between the source and
destination network elements.)
5. Establish a login to the source network element for the first STS-1 path to be
verified. (To establish a remote login, refer to DLP-524.)
6. At the CIT, select CONFIGURATION-Retrieve-Path-Trace command and
execute to obtain a Path Trace Report. An example of this report with a
description of the output parameters is provided in Section 11 of this manual.
This report shows the STS-1 path(s) that originates at this network element.
7. Compare the provisioned transmit (PrvTx) character string(s) in the Path Trace
Report with the values determined from office records (Step 4) and make a
note of any differences. (To continue with the same example as in DLP-531,
the PrvRx and the PrvTx strings should match with "transmitting from node 3
at Boston.")
