Enter/Delete/Edit Limited Granularity STS-1
Cross-Connections in Network Elements for 2-Fiber
Ring Network (for Rel. 6 and Earlier)
Overview: This procedure for the FT-2000 2-fiber ring network can be performed on
an in-service or out-of-service basis. For Release 6 and earlier, STS-1
cross-connections are made with external loopback cables at one network element or
node on the ring network; then a remote login is established to other network
elements on the network where the reciprocal STS-1 cross-connections exist. For
Release 7 and higher, refer to the associated STS-3 (or STS-1) cross-connections
covered in DLP-536. Section 8 has additional information on STS-1 granularity.
!
CAUTION:
Cross-connections made to the wrong points can cause service interruptions.
!
CAUTION:
STS-3 (or STS-1 for Release 7 and higher) cross-connections are covered in
DLP-536. Refer to DLP-536 to add/drop/edit STS-3 (or STS-1)
cross-connections.
1. Obtain the instructions (work order) that contain the STS-1 cross-connect
information.
NOTE:
This procedure requires that a LNCTL circuit pack be installed and
operating (not removed or failed).
NOTE:
A DS3 (LAA2) or STS1E (LAA4) circuit pack has three ports. STS-1
granularity allows the individual STS-1 signals (DS3 or EC1 ports)
associated with a slot to be added, dropped, or cabled through.
NOTE:
A 1-way cross-connection (Release 4.1 and later) means that the
connection is made in either the transmit or the receive direction. A
2-way cross-connection (Release 4.0 and earlier) means that the
connection is made in both the transmit and receive directions.
2. If required, connect the craft interface terminal (CIT) to the local FT-2000
network element and condition it.
