J
Jitter
Timing jitter is defined as short-term variations of the significant instants of a digital signal from
their ideal positions in time.
L
LAN
Local Area Network.
LBA
Lightwave Booster Amplifier.
LBO
Line Buildout — An equalizer network that guarantees the proper signal level. Also see electrical
line buildout and optical line buildout.
LCLAN
Line Controller Local Area Network — The internal local area network that provides communica-
tions between the System Controller circuit pack and the Line Controller circuit packs.
LED
Light-Emitting Diode.
Line
A bidirectional optical transmission line. In T1/Bellcore terminology, "line" refers to a transmission
medium, together with the associated high speed equipment, required to provide the means of
transporting information between two consecutive Network Elements, one of which originates the
line signal and the other terminates the line signal.
LNCTL
The FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave System Line Controller circuit pack performs line specific computa-
tions.
LOF
Loss of Frame — A failure to synchronize to an incoming signal.
LOHCTL
The FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave System Overhead Controller - LAN circuit pack provides user
access to the LAN SONET overhead channels.
LOP
Loss of Pointer — A failure to extract a good pointer from an STS-1 signal.
LOS
Loss of Signal — The absence of an adequate incoming signal.
LSSW
The FT-2000 OC-48 Lightwave System Low Speed Switch circuit pack performs low speed inter-
face protection switching.
