Operations and Maintenance Manual Plumbing Description
Version 1.2 - June 2004 7 - 7
EXHAUST SYSTEM
Refer to the engineering drawings labeled 118168F_ (fluids) and 118168A_
(assembly) for further details.
The exhaust system consists of hoses, a plenum located in the handling section of the
machine between the robot and the grinding chamber, and a connection to an inhouse
exhaust source. A five-inch collar at the rear of the machine connects to the inhouse
exhaust source. A single five-inch diameter tube runs from the rear of the machine to
the plenum. From the plenum exhaust tubes connect to the left grind chamber, the
right grind chamber, and the spin-rinse station. The exhaust system prevents the
buildup of vapors during the grinding process and exhausts airborne particles from the
grinding process.
DRAIN SYSTEM
Refer to the engineering drawings labeled 118168F_ (fluids) and 118168A_
(assembly) for further details.
One main drain (PVC pipe) runs from a two-inch pipe connection at the rear of the
machine to the right side of the lower right spindle assembly; there it becomes flexible
tubing branching to the right grind pan, the left grind pan, and the front of the
machine. The lines to the grind pans are two-inch inner diameter tubing; the line to the
front of the machine is one-inch inner diameter tubing. During the grind cycle, D.I.
water sprays out in the grind pan to prevent clogging. The drain to the front of the
machine is connected to the bottom of the exhaust plenum. The handling system pan
and spin-rinse station both drain to the side of the plenum.
Note that when the grinding and handling machine sections are separated for
maintenance and adjustment procedures, the handling system pan and spin-rinse drains
are not disconnected from the plenum. Be sure to disconnect only the one-inch drain
hose extending from the bottom of the plenum.
