True a newly installed grind wheel before using.
About Truing
On the Model 7AF the probes may be used to check the work chucks for true (radial
runout, indicated by a probe fluctuation of less than one micron).
Truing a wheel or chuck prior to use ensures that the entire face of the wheel is in
contact with the part at all times during the grinding cycle. The entire face thereby
contributes to the grinding process, preventing excessive vibration or chattering.
Wheel truing removes runout, making the wheel surface parallel to that of the chuck.
About Dressing
Dressing a wheel improves or alters its cutting action. The dressing action removes
the outside layer of dulled diamonds and any loading of material that the wheel may
have picked up, exposing the sharp, strong diamonds.
Dressing a chuck conditions its surface to remove debris and unclog vacuum pores,
resulting in reduced thickness variations within the wafers processed.
