TAP-116
Clear Unsuccessful Circuit Pack Replacement
Overview: Only use this procedure in the unlikely event that you were sent here by
another procedure (for example, TAP-111) because a circuit pack replacement did
not clear the associated failure indicator(s). This procedure is used to replace other
circuit packs that could possibly cause such a failure indication(s).
!
CAUTION:
A potential service interruption can be avoided for DS3, STS1E, OC3, OC12,
TRMTR, or RCVR circuit packs by following this instruction. After a replacement
circuit pack has been inserted, the FAULT LED should go out within 35 seconds
(optical packs may still FLASH if no signal is present). If the FAULT LED
remains lighted after the 35 seconds, immediately remove the replacement
circuit pack before 110 seconds elapses. In addition, and if the system crashes
(all LEDs lighted), remove the pack that caused the crash and wait for the bay to
recover. Then, install a different version of the replacement circuit pack and then
reseat the LNCTL circuit pack. Do not reinstall the pack that caused the crash
into an in-service system. Return it for repair.
NOTE:
A series number S1:2 is the same series number as S1:4. The 2 and 4 refer to
minor changes within series 1.
NOTE:
In this procedure, the circuit pack that first indicated "failed" is called the original
circuit pack. The replacement circuit pack that did not clear the failure is called
the original replacement circuit pack (same type of circuit pack). If the failure
still exists, then one or more circuit packs which are called alternative
replacement circuit packs are substituted.
1. What software version is running in the network element? (The software ver-
sion is displayed at the top of the CIT screen).
If Version 3.0.0 or lower, then continue with Step 6.
If Version 4.0.0 or higher, then continue with Step 2.
NOTE:
The Equipage and Version Report generated by the Retrieve-Equipment
command indicates an alternative CP to be replaced if replacing the circuit
