7. Remove the protector caps (if equipped) from the ends of the optical loopback
cable and store the caps in a clean area (plastic box).
8. Clean the optical buildout, cable fiber ends, and connectors with canned air or
nontoxic gas.

9. Install a 20-dB buildout into the IN connector of the OC48 REGENR circuit
pack.

10. Connect the lightguide jumper between the buildout (at IN connector) and the
OUT connector on the same OC48 REGENR circuit pack (same line.)
11. Repeat Steps 3 through 10 for the adjacent OC48 REGENR circuit pack(s) in
the same shelf to be looped back.
12. STOP! YOU HAVE COMPLETED THIS PROCEDURE.

WARNING:
Unterminated optical connectors may emit invisible laser radiation. Eye
damage may occur if beam is viewed directly or with improper optical
instruments. Avoid direct exposure to beam.
NOTE:
Remember that the OC48 REGENR circuit packs are used in the service and
protection lines and in both the east and west directions.
Remove the lightguide jumper connected between the OUT and IN connectors
of an OC48 REGENR circuit pack and slide protector caps (if available) over the
jumper ends.
14. If equipped, remove the 20-dB buildout (for testing) from the IN connector of
an OC48 REGENR circuit pack.

15. If equipped, clean the buildout (engineered for that line) that was removed in
Step6andreinstallitintheIN connector of the OC48 REGENR circuit pack.

16. Select the transmit fiber, remove the protector cap (if equipped), and store the
cap in a clean area (plastic box).
