Folded Rings (Point-to-Point) 2
The FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal and FT-2000 Dual Lightwave
Terminating Bay may be configured to support the folded rings architecture.
Folded rings are rings without fiber diversity. This terminology is derived from the
image of folding a ring into a linear segment. Figure 2-2 shows an example of a
folded ring where adjacent ring nodes are connected and the end nodes are
connected together across the whole network.

The FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal equipped with Release 3.0.1 or
later software or the FT-2000 OC-48 Dual Lightwave Terminating Bay may be
used in folded rings. In a folded ring application,
all FT-2000 OC-48
Add/Drop-Rings Terminals must be equipped with the same release of software.
The FT-2000 OC-48 Repeater Bay equipped with Release 4.1.0-RPTR or
6.0.0-RPTR software is also available to increase the distance between two
FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminals equipped with Release 4.1.0-ADR or
later software or two FT-2000 OC-48 Dual Lightwave Terminating Bay equipped
with Release 4.1.0-ADR or later software.
The FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal, FT-2000 OC-48 Dual Lightwave
Terminating Bay, and FT-2000 OC-48 Repeater Bay allow folded ring applications
to be used in place of non-ring applications, for example, linear add/drop.
