FE ACTY
Far-End Activity — An LED on the user panel that is lighted when an alarm or status condition
exists at a remote FT-2000 OC-48 Repeater Bay or FT-2000 OC-48 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal.
FEBE
Far-End-Block Error — An indication returned to the transmitting terminal that an errored block has
been detected at the receiving terminal. A block is a specified grouping of bits.
FERF
Far-End-Receive Failure — An indication returned to a transmitting terminal that the receiving ter-
minal has detected an incoming failure. Also refer to the line remote defect indicator (RDI-L) signal.
FIT
Failures in Time — Circuit pack failure rates per 10ud hours as calculated using the method
described in TR-TSY-000332, Issue 3, "
Reliability Prediction Procedure for Electronic Equipment
(RPP)".
Flash EPROM
A new technology that combines the nonvolatility of EPROM with the in-circuit reprogrammability of
EEPROM (electrically-erasable PROM).
FLS
Frame Loss Seconds.
Folded Rings
Folded (collapsed) rings are ring networks without fiber diversity. The terminology derives from the
image of folding a ring into a linear segment.
Free Running
An operating condition of a network element in which its local oscillator is not locked to any synchro-
nization reference and is using no storage techniques to sustain its accuracy.
FT-LBA
FT-Lightwave Booster Amplifier
FT-RDS
FT-Ring Diversity Switch
