B.18.1. Data Channels have User-Configurable Names
The user can customize the names of data channels in the software. Each Measure Item has a new
parameter labeled Use Auto Name which will be enabled by default. Disable that checkbox to manually
specify a name for that data channel. The data channels with user-configured names will also use the
user-configured names for the saved data pages.
Data Channels previously would choose names automatically based on hardware space connections,
which could sometimes be confusing. An example of customized data channel names can be seen in the
right and bottom image below. The original automatic names are shown on the left and top of the image
below.

B.19. External Hardware Devices
The External Hardware Device drawer on the Item Palette contains numerous predefined hardware
devices that are combined with the internal components of R9 to make a complete SPM control system.
