Hardware Space Components
One class of External Hardware Device are STM Preamplifiers. There is an icon available to match each
STM preamplifier that is sold by RHK. These Preamplifier icons have the gains preprogrammed, so no
settings are required for their use. The input pin of the IVP is connected to the Tip pin of an STM
microscope. The output pin of the IVP is connected to one of the Input Channels of the R9. As this
connection is made, the properties of the preamplifier are propagated to the Input Channel, defining its
unit, scale, and full scale reading.
The IVP-R9 is an interface between the single ended output stage of the IVP preamplifiers and the
differential input stage of the R9. In addition, it is an interface between the differential output of the
Channel 1 Drive and the single ended Bias signal at the microscope.
B.19.1.1. External Control Support for FEMTO Preamps
The FEMTO preamplifiers can be controlled remotely through some digital logic. The FEMTO DLPCA-
200 can be connected to Digital I/O #1 or Digital I/O #2 to be controlled through the R9 software. For
example, the gain and bandwidth could be remotely selected from the R9 software. Contact RHK for a
wiring diagram for this preamplifier. Additional cabling is available from RHK for powering the FEMTO
preamplifiers from R9 (RHK part # 28202881) and for communications with the variable gain
preamplifiers (RHK part # 28202882).
