Chapter 7. Analyze Spectroscopy Data
7.1 Analyzing Spectroscopy Data
Spectroscopy in an STM is measured by ramping an input signal, such as voltage, height, force etc, and
at the same time, measure one or more output signal, such as current, height, force etc. The
measurement of spectroscopy is not an imaging technique, rather a point by point measurement, and its
data are normally displayed as one or multiple 2D curves. Very often more than one channels of output
are plotted against one input channel, and many measurements are carried out in a sequential way. The
R9 Browser allow one to open, display, process and export such multiple channel of curves in an
interactive way.
7.1.1 Display and Analyze your Spectroscopy Data
The R9 Browser opens spectroscopy data with file name extension of .SM4. Spectroscopy data with
multiple curves be displayed simultaneously. User could choose the range of display by selecting the
beginning curve number and the end curve number. Batch curves are displayed with different color codes
to represents different runs of the measurement. Individual curve can be put on top by selecting with the
Previous Curve, and Next Curve button. The data can be displayed with certain processing, such as
removal of offset, put on high pass filter, and calculate the first order and second order derivative.
