Chapter 2. Connect Your Microscope
Connecting the R9 Controller to a microscope will be different for each setup but there are certainly some
basic steps common to most situations.
1. Check the cables and wiring to make sure there are no cuts, depressed pins, or corrosion of the metal
parts.
2. Check the grounds between the various hardware.
3. Check that the preamp is connected to the microscope.
4. Check that the bias output is connected to the microscope.
5. Check that the high voltage output is connected to the microscope.
Tip
There should not be any tension between the cable and socket, which could cause bad
connections and extra noise.
Tip
The cables should be arranged in a clean and organized way. Some use bungee cord to
suspend the weight of the cables above the instrument so the weight of the cable does not
cause tension on the connectors.
Tip
Make sure the cables are not tangled into other wires such as power cables or computer
cables.
Tip
When disconnecting cables, do not put force on the cable itself. Instead, use the metal
connectors do disconnect the cables.
