8. Rotate the fringe plate while observing the left probe reading on the Home
Machine menu screen:
a. While holding the grind wheel stationary with one hand, slowly rotate the
fringe plate one full revolution with the other hand.
b. Observe the Left Chuck Probe box during the rotation for display of
vertical run-out of the fringe plate.
c. Record the probe reading displayed at each of the four 1/4-20 screws
securing the fringe plate.
Screw 1 ___ Screw 2 ___ Screw 3 ___ Screw 4 ___
GOAL: The readings at the four screws should be within +/- 2 microns
of each other.
9. Adjust the fringe plate position:
a. Using a 3/16-in. hex key, rotate each of the screws clockwise or
counterclockwise as needed to raise or lower the plate at the four screw
locations.
b. Rotate the plate and read the left probe display again.
c. Continue adjusting the four screws and taking probe readings until the goal
is met.
Right Spindle Fringe Plate
Repeat as for the left spindle, substituting right spindle for left and right probe for left
where appropriate.
When Both Fringe Plates Have Been Adjusted
When the goal for each fringe plate has been met, each fringe plate becomes a
perfectly flat reference to use in referencing the upper spindles.
