7. While carefully providing support for the grind wheel, free the wheel by
removing the six 1/4-20 socket head bolts:
CAUTION: Without adequate support during the removal process, the
grind wheel may break by dropping down onto the
conditioning arm.
a. Using a 3/16-in. hex key, loosen the three exposed 1/4-20 socket head
bolts by rotating them counterclockwise.
b. Manually rotate the grind wheel 180 °, exposing the three remaining socket
head bolts.
c. Using a 3/16-in. hex key, loosen the now exposed three remaining 1/4-20
socket head bolts by rotating them counterclockwise.
d. While inserting one hand under the grind wheel to support it, use the other
hand to manually remove two of the exposed socket head bolts.
e. While continuing to support the wheel, manually rotate the grind wheel 120
° and manually remove the next two socket head bolts.
f. Repeat rotating and removing until all six bolts have been removed.
8. While continuing to support the grind wheel with one hand, push the
conditioning arm counterclockwise to permit the wheel to drop off the spindle
without contacting the conditioning arm.
(For the left grind wheel, push the conditioning arm clockwise.)
9. Remove the grind wheel from the spindle.
10. Release the conditioning arm.
11. Using isopropyl alcohol and lint-free wipes, thoroughly clean the bottom of the
backing plate (part # 172245), located at the bottom of the grind spindle.
Install the New Grind Wheel
1. To insure a clean, accurate mounting to the spindle, using isopropyl alcohol
and lint-free wipes, clean the back side of the grind wheel to be installed.
2. To permit access to the spindle, push the conditioning arm counterclockwise.
(For the left grind wheel, push the conditioning arm clockwise.)
