STRASBAUGH CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION
3
Now, continue the procedure to enter the Password for the level of access that you need. If you make a mistake,
just press “NEXT” to cycle around to the character that you need to correct. Before pressing “ENTER”, it is a
good idea to use the “NEXT” button to quickly cycle through both codes to check them. Press “ENTER” for
the program to check the codes. If successful, “Access” will display the requested access level and the name
associated with the given Identification Code will be seen in the upper left corner.
The codes are cleared every time the Log In procedure is started. Therefore, if you wish to release the machine
from your responsibility, just press “LOG IN” and “ENTER.” These are not valid codes, so the access level will
be cleared and the display will change to “Not Valid.”
Using the Password Maintenance Program
Purpose
A separate program, PASS7AF.EXE, is used to maintain the password file. The file contains the four passwords
that determine access level to the machine, Identification Codes for individuals or groups authorized to use the
machine, and the publicly seen names associated with each Identification Code. Use of a stand-alone program
allows the passwords to be maintained on a desktop IBM compatible computer or on the 7AF after stopping the
application program. On quitting the Password Maintenance Program, a file is generated that will be used to
check passwords and Identification Codes. If guidelines are followed, this file can be maintained on remote
machines through GEM process program (recipe) management techniques. There are three levels of security,
which are Operator, Process Engineer and Maintenance. A fourth access level and password, supervisory level,
is only used with this program to allow passwords to be accessed and changed.
Starting the Program
The program, PASS7AF.EXE, is a DOS program that maintains all files in the default directory. The default
directory is the directory that the program is started from. Files used by the program are the password file itself,
UTIL7AF.PAS, and a backup file UTIL7AF.BAK. A fourth file, PASS7AF.GRS, contains the screen display
used by the program.
If you are using a software version earlier than 5.03, and this program is to be used on a desktop system, exit to
DOS on the 7AF and copy all four of these files to a floppy disk, then to your desktop system. Start the program
by typing PASS7AF from a DOS prompt. To run from Windows, see your documentation on how to run a MS-
DOS program.
If you are using software version 5.03 or higher, there are additional files. BUTTONS.GRS is the screen
display allowing you to give access to individual buttons. The four standard access schemes are named
UTIL7AF.B00 through UTIL7AF.B03. The file in which you save your access scheme is called
UTIL7AF.BUT. If you select one of the standard schemes and make no further changes, UTIL7AF.BUT will
be identical to one of the file UTIL7AF.B00 through UTIL7AF.B03.
Note that there are instructions at the bottom of the first screen. Touch or click the mouse in the rectangle
labeled “Supervisor.” (The “Tab” key works too.) A blinking cursor will appear there. Enter the Supervisory
password in all capital letters or numbers (alphanumeric). The first password is set to SUPR. Press “Enter” and
many of the remaining boxes should fill in.
If you forget the supervisory password, you must call the factory or contact a Strasbaugh technician to get the
emergency password. Note that this is the same algorithm used on the 6DS-SP model and expires daily. First,
enter the least significant 4 digits in the “Maintenance” rectangle. Then, enter the remaining digits in the
“Supervisor” rectangle. This will also allow you to generate a file without a previously generated password file.
