This section explains the control elements and connectors of the Signal Generator R&S
SMU with the aid of the front and rear views and describes how to put the instrument into
operation. It also describes the connection of peripherals such as printer, keyboard,
mouse and monitor. Specifications of interfaces can be found in the data sheet.
The chapter 3, "Getting Started", on page 65 of this manual provides an overview of
the generator functions and introduces the operating concept. Detailed operating instruc-
tions and an overview of menus follow in chapter 4, "Manual Operation", on page 85.
For all reference information concerning manual and remote control of the instrument
refer to the online help system or its printed/printable version. A more detailed description
of the hardware connectors and interfaces is also part of the help system.
2.1 Front Panel Tour
The front panel of the R&S Signal Generator consists of the VGA display with the softkey
area, some utility keys (left side) and the hardkey area with connectors and control inter-
faces (right side). The subsequent sections provide brief explanations on the controls and
connectors, the hardkey area and the front panel.
