2.6.3 Using computer names
Alternatively to the IP address, each PC or instrument connected in a LAN can be
accessed via an unambiguous computer name. Each instrument is delivered with an
assigned computer name, but this name can be changed.
Querying and changing a computer name
1. Press the "Windows" key to access the operating system.
2. Select "Start > My Computer > Properties > Computer Name".
The computer name is displayed under "Full Computer Name".
3. To change the computer name, select "Change", enter the new computer name and
confirm the entry.
2.6.4 Changing the Windows Firewall Settings
A firewall protects an instrument by preventing unauthorized users from gaining access
to it through a network. In the default configuration of the R&S Signal Generator the
firewall is enabled.
Some actions require a different firewall configuration, e.g.:
●
To exchange data with other hosts in the LAN, you have to allow "File and Printer
Sharing".
●
To open a LAN-based remote control channel, you have to disable the firewall.
●
To transfer waveform files generated on an external PC using R&S WinIQSIM2, you
have to disable the firewall.
Risk of Unauthorized Access
Disabling the firewall or allowing exceptions may make your instrument more vulnerable
to viruses and intruders.
It is recommended that you restore the default firewall configuration after completing a
task which requires modified settings.
To change the firewall settings
1. Press the WINDOWS key on the external keyboard to access the operating system
and open the Windows XP's control panel.
2. Select "Windows Firewall > General" and enable/disable the firewall as required.
3. If necessary, select "Windows Firewall > Exceptions" and enable "File and Printer
Sharing".
For detailed information about the firewall refer to the Windows XP help system.
