Use and maintenance
Pre-ride checks
Warning
Failure to carry out these checks before riding may result in damage to the motorcycle and serious injury to the rider.
Before starting, check the following points:
Fuel level in the tank
Check the fuel level in the tank. Fill the tank if necessary (Sect. C 2, Fuel, lubricants and other fluids).
Engine oil level
Check the oil level in the sump through the sight glass. Top up with the recommended oil if necessary (Sect. C 2, Fuel, lubricants
and other fluids).
Brake and clutch fluid
Check the fluid levels in the respective reservoirs.
Coolant
Check coolant level in the expansion reservoir. Top up if necessary (Sect. C 2).
Tyres
Check tyre pressure and condition (Sect. C 1.1, Front wheel/Rear wheel).
Controls
Operate the brake, clutch, throttle and gear change controls (levers, pedals and twistgrip) to check that they function correctly.
Lights and indicators
Make sure lights, indicators and horn work properly. Replace any burnt-out bulbs with new bulbs with the same rating
(Sect. C 1.1, Lights/instrument panel).
Key locks
Check that the fuel filler cap and the seat are locked.
Sidestand
Make sure sidestand operates smoothly (Sect. P 6, Protection and safety devices) and is in the correct position (Sect. H 5,
Stands).
