Appendix F Specifications – Standard Models
324
GEM-5W93, Gamma Exit Monitor, 1"Pb, 93cm inner width
− same as standard GEM-5 (serial bus) except with inner width modified to
93 cm (36.6 in.)
GEM-5W100, Gamma Exit Monitor, 1"Pb, 1 m inner width
− same as standard GEM-5 (serial bus) except with inner width modified to
100 cm (39.4 in.)
Operating Modes
The monitor is designed to be operated in one of three different modes depending
upon the level of detection capability needed. These are:
1. Walkthrough (monitor determines MDA based on user settable parameters).
2. Pause-and-count (enter the monitor, wait for a user settable length of time, then
exit).
3. Two-step (stand facing the detectors for a short period (time user settable or
calculated by monitor), turn 180° and repeat count, then exit).
The contamination level at which the monitor can be set to accurately alarm is
different for each of these modes. The sensitivity will differ depending upon the
isotopes, background and count times.
Alarms
Separate alarm zones for feet, body, and head are set for a specified release limit
expressed in activity units (e.g. dpm, Bq, nCi, µCi, pCi, or their /cm
2
variants).
• Independent alarm levels may be set for individual detectors.
• Simultaneous graphic display showing detector(s) indicating above alarm
limit.
• User-selectable release limits and confidence of alarm.
Parameter Setting
Use a keyboard connected via the accessible front USB port for entering parameters:
alarm levels, fixed count times or variable count times (calculated count times,
optimized based on the alarm level set, background count time, detection probability,
false alarm probability, and accuracy of the measurement.
