I. Component Details – Options
This Appendix describes the instrumentation and control components of the Options
available for Gem-5 contamination monitors. The components, which are standard
with GEM-5 contamination monitors, are described in the appendix Component
Details – Standard Models on page 352.

Auxiliary Sensor Board (SCN 816696)
This board is only installed when Optional electric barriers are installed.
An FPGA chip has been programmed with control logic to recognize commands sent
to the board and to generate all necessary strobe pulses.
The Detector Serial Bus Interface is made via the Command and Data line
transceivers. Interface connectors J1, J2 are 16-pin ribbon-cable connectors (see
Table 31 on page 339. for signal descriptions). The Auxiliary Sensor Board includes
local +2.5V and +5 V regulators, which are powered from +12V bus power line.
The polarity of all sensor inputs (active low or active high) may be changed by
setting the appropriate switch (one switch per input) located on 4-position DIP
switches SW3- SW6. The function of each switch is described on the silkscreen.
Refer to Table 43. Similarly, relay outputs may be set to normally energized or de-
energized by means of switch SW1 and SW2. Refer to Table 44.
