Appendix J Routine & Preventative Maintenance Standard Models
368
Computer Windows 7 (or XP) Embedded Operating
System
The monitor’s computer contains the Microsoft Windows 7 Embedded operating
system. The embedded version of Windows 7 differs from the desktop version in that
it is built specifically for this computer and only contains components necessary for
the monitor's operation and maintenance. Optionally Windows XP Embedded can be
ordered and installed if required (special order, note that XP Embedded does not
support Monitor program V9 or later, only V8 or earlier). The operating system is
thus smaller in size, which improves performance and reliability, while at the same
time it delivers all the required functionality. It supports networking, USB, and serial
port communication.
Note: Two user accounts are configured at the factory, the Monitor account and the
built-in Administrator account. The computer automatically boots up to the
Monitor account and starts the Monitor.exe software. The Monitor account
is intended for normal monitoring operation, including Service Mode setup
and test screens. The Monitor account has limited privileges, which prevents
regular users from actions that could affect the monitor's functionality, like
changing Windows settings, deleting files, etc. The Administrator account has
administrative rights and allows full control over the system. It is intended
for administrative and software maintenance purposes like installing drivers,
copying files and changing Windows settings.
Both accounts are password protected. As shipped, the passwords are set to be the
same as the account names (i.e., “Monitor” and “Administrator” (case sensitive)).
The maintenance personnel should change the Administrator password when the unit
is installed in a facility. The password can be changed from Control Panel\User
Accounts (click on the Administrator icon and select “Change password”). There
should be no reason to change the Monitor password. The system is designed to
automatically logon to Monitor account. The auto logon information is embedded in
registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.
If it is decided that the Monitor password should be different, the DefaultPassword
value in that key must be changed accordingly.
A Setup USB memory stick is available for use when the computer must be booted
from it rather than from the hard disk, if the operating system files on the hard disk
are damaged.
For routine file copying and data transfer, use the USB interface for USB memory
sticks.
