Barrier Arms Option
Installation
Factory installed only.
Adjustment/Maintenance
The adjustment of the limit switch sensor is done during factory assembly. It does not
need readjustment and neither lubrication nor cleaning is necessary.
DC Motor Controller for Access Control Options
The DC motor controller (Figure 160) is designed to operate a sliding door or a
barrier. On the GEM-5 only the Barrier Option is available (see Table 46). The only
difference between the two variants is the firmware of the controller.

The only difference between the two variants is the firmware of the controller. The
controller is designed as a closed control loop, which controls the position of the
actuator, which in turn is mechanically coupled to the door or barrier.
The control loop consists of a DC motor and incremental position encoder, which are
mechanically coupled. This encoder provides information on position of the motor
shaft and the direction of movement. The information about the movement
(quadrature encoded pulses) is fed to the microprocessor controlled electronic board
operation of which is based on a PID algorithm (Proportional Integral Differential).
The output of the electronic board is a PWM modulated drive signal for the DC
motor. The microprocessor board also implements a state machine which translates
external commands to the movement of barrier driven by the DC motor. The board
also drives an electromagnetic brake (integrated within the motor assembly) that is
activated when required. The motor controller board also implements an algorithm of
detecting obstacles obstructing the movement, by detecting over current. The
controller board has built in hardware and firmware protection for over current and
short circuit.
