Chapter 2 Installation - First Use of System
12 Gem-5 User’s Manual
Electrical Connections
The main electrical connections are discussed below in sections AC Electrical Mains
Connection on page 12, Relay Connections on page 12, I/O Connections on page 12.
AC Electrical Mains Connection
On GEM-5 models, the customer’s incoming power is connected to a standard 3
prong IEC 320 power inlet connector, which is located on the top panel. The
connector has a built in 2 x4A fuses (starting from 2015) and EMI filter.
POWER ON/OFF Keylock Switch
The main AC power switch is located above the computer access door. It is lockable
in either the OFF or ON position by simply removing the provided key.
Relay Connections
Although not used as shipped from the factory, the monitor has provision for remote
annunciation via relays on the sensor board. These relays provide contact closure for
signaling the condition (e.g. Contaminated, Clean, Fault, Ready to Use, etc.) or some
combinations of these as selected in the F3 – Setup, F5 – Configuration screen
(starting on page 148). The relays are single-pole double-throw with a common
return and one normally open (N.O.) and one normally closed (N.C.) output.
External connections are made through connectors on the Sensor Board on page 344.
The board layout and connector pin outs are described in Hardware Components part
of the Appendices. In addition, an energize/de-energize signal toggle switch exists
on the relay.
Input/Output (I/O) Connections
One can connect directly I/O devices to the Window 7 embedded computer box,
please see the Hardware Components part of the Appendices for more details.
Preliminary Check-Out
Before applying power to the monitor for the first time, perform the following
checks:
Note: It will be necessary to unlock and swing open the vertical detector support
frames or access panel depending on the model.
1. Visually ensure that all detector boards and the Sensor Board are connected to
the serial bus (16-wire ribbon cable) in a continuous daisy chain beginning from
the Carrier Board at the computer box. A Terminator Plug (SCN 816546) must
be inserted into the final unused connector at the end of the bus. All detectors
must be connected for proper operation.
2. Ensure that all sensor cables are properly connected to the Sensor Board.
3. Ensure that the speaker cable is connected to the speaker connector on the
computer box (see Figure 7 on page 13).
