Appendix H Component Details Standard Models

H. Component Details Standard
Models
This Appendix describes the standard instrumentation and control components of
the Mirion Technologies (Canberra CA) Ltd. contamination monitors. Those
components, which only come with Options, are described in Appendix I Component
Details – Options. Each monitor is a self-contained PC-based system with the ability
to maintain monitoring operation while performing self-diagnostics at the electronic
board level. The monitor provides very independent operation with the ability to
signal alarm conditions remotely through relays on the sensor board.
Units are capable of reporting operational status to a central computer on a LAN
(Local Area Network) using the built-in Ethernet communications port. If there is no
LAN installed or if the unit is temporarily disconnected from the LAN, the monitor
will continue to operate independently.
General Description
The system electronics consist of the following modules:
Computer (computer board, peripherals and low voltage power supply),
Carrier Board (installed in the computer box, one per unit),
Detector Boards (one per detector, installed adjacent to its detector),
Sensor Board (one per unit),
Serial Bus Terminator Board (one per unit),
Body Position Sensors (type, number and location vary with model),
Auxiliary Sensor Board (one per unit with barrier Option[s]),
Optional User ID Badge Reader (e.g. bar code reader).
A block diagram of the electronic configuration is provided in the later
Appendices.
The use of Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) has reduced the number of
integrated circuit (IC) components. These FPGAs handle the address decoding and
controls for all circuit boards. See the appendices Block Diagrams Standard Models
(page 380) and Block Diagrams – With Options (page 385) for System Block
Diagrams pertinent to the model and Options in question.

Note that no model uses all sensors. See the appendix, Specifications Standard Models, on page 324 for details. The
Frisker is available as an option on Argos-AB and Sirius-AB models. Sirius/GEM-5/Cronos does not use LED Boards. The
GEM-5 is the only model with a “WAIT” annunciator.
