(Continued)
2) If the tube has a crack that is 360 degrees around the tube circumference, replace
the tube.
(b) If the cooling air failure was on only one side of the stage 7 cooling air system, do the
steps that follow to find the Continue-In-Operation Limits:
NOTE: The number of cycles the engine was operated with a cooling air failure is used
to find the Continue-In-Operation limits. Look at the record of the nacelle
temperature to find this information. An open blow-out door is also a sign of a
cooling system failure.
NOTE: If more than one cooling air decrease has occurred since a LPT overhaul, count
the number of cycles since the first cooling air decrease.
1) If the engine was operated for less than 450 cycles with a cooling air decrease, it
can continue in operation if:
a) The fan rotor can be turned freely by hand.
b) The cause of the failure condition is corrected.
2) If the airplane was operated for more than 450 cycles with a cooling air decrease, it
can continue in operation if:
a) The fan rotor can turn freely by hand.
3) The cause of the failure condition is corrected.
4) At the next overhaul of the rotor, do the overtemperature inspection of the LPT rotor
stage 1 and 2 disks, stage 2 HPT disks, and the stage 2 HPT blade retainer.
5) If you do not know the number of cycles the engine was operated with one or more
cooling air decreases since the last LPT overhaul, the engine can continue in
service if:
a) The fan rotor will turn freely by hand.
b) The cause of the failure condition is corrected.
c) At the next overhaul of the rotor, do the overtemperature inspection of the LPT
rotor stage 1 and 2 disks, stage 2 HPT disks, and the stage 2 HPT blade
retainer.
(c) If the cooling air decrease is in both (left and right) air systems for any number of cycles,
the engine can continue in operation for 50 flight cycles if:
1) The fan rotor turns freely by hand.
2) The cause of the failure condition is corrected.
3) Replace the engine after 50 flight cycles.
a) Do the overtemperature inspection of the LPT rotor stage 1 and 2 disks, stage
2 HPT disks.
b) Replace the HPT stage 2 blade retainer (discard the old retainer).
