F. Procedure

(1) Make sure the task "Preparation for VSV Repairs" has been done.
(a) Put the protective mat, STD-6378.

(2) Prepare to repair the HPC stage one blades as follows:
(a) Install the N2 rotor manual or pneumatic cranking system (PAGEBLOCK 72-00-00/201).
(b) Remove the B1-0 borescope plug (Figure 803).

(3) Remove the number one acoustic liner that is immediately above the 3 o'clock position (aft to
forward) (Figure 804) as follows:
(a) Use a razor blade, STD-1418 (or a sharp utility knife, STD-552) to cut the adhesive that is
around the acoustical liner section.
(b) Loosen the retainer screws that hold the liner section to the fan case.
(c) Disengage the liner section from the fan case rails.
WARNING
DO NOT GET METHYL ETHYL KETONE (MEK) IN YOUR MOUTH OR
EYES, OR ON YOUR SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM MEK.
PUT ON A RESPIRATOR, PROTECTIVE SPLASH GOGGLES, AND
GLOVES WHEN YOU USE MEK. KEEP MEK AWAY FROM SPARKS,
FLAME, AND HEAT. MEK IS A POISONOUS AND FLAMMABLE SOLVENT
WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.
(d) Clean the remaining adhesive with solvent, B00148.

(4) Remove the number three VBV door as follows (Figure 805):
(a) Remove the clevis bolt, two washers, and nut that attach the rod-end bearing to the VBV.
NOTE: Do not remove the lockwire or adjust the jamnut on the bearing rod-end.
(b) Remove the bolt that attaches the bypass valve bellcrank to the unison ring.
(c) Remove the two fan frame bolts, two washers, and two nuts that attach the hinge
assembly to the fan frame.
(d) Remove the VBV and the hinge assembly from the fan frame.

(5) Adjust the VSV system to the full open position (PAGEBLOCK 75-31-02/501).
G. Repair the Blade

(1) Put the blade in position for repair as follows (Figure 806):
(a) Find the location of the stage one blade that has the nicked leading edge.
1) Use a borescope to visually identify the nicked blade through the B1-0 port.
