Condition Maximum Serviceable Limits
Cracks in the basic metal Not permitted.
Dents Permitted, with a smooth contour. They must be less than 0.12 inch (3.0 mm) in
depth, and more than 2 inches (50.8 mm) apart.
Corrosion (discoloration) Permitted, if there are no scales or pits.

(2) Visually examine the aft fan case casing shell for the conditions that follow:
NOTE: Inspect the aft fan case nut plate attachment of the casing shell if there is corrosion
around the nut plate. The nut plate must be tight against the casing. The nut plate is
tight if a 0.003 inch (0.08 mm) feeler gage does not hit the nut plate rivet when
inserted between the nut plate and casing shell

Indication of corrosion in casing base

Discoloration is permitted if there is no scaling or pitting.
Indication of corrosion around casing
nut plates
Permitted if less than 0.005 inch (0.03 mm) deep and the nut plate is not loose.

(3) Visually examine the bypass valve for the conditions that follow:
Condition Maximum Serviceable Limits
Cracks Not permitted.
Nicks and scratches Permitted, if they are less than 0.02 inch (0.5 mm) in depth (after you remove the
high metal). The nicks and scratches must be a minimum of 0.25 inch (6.4 mm)
apart.
Rivets that are gone Not permitted.
Cuts and tears in the valve seal Not permitted.

(4) Visually examine the bypass valve clevis and the bellcranks for the conditions that follow:

Loose nuts and bolts Not permitted. Tighten the parts.
Nuts and bolts that are gone. Not permitted. Replace the parts.

(5) Visually examine the struts for the conditions that follow:
Condition Maximum Serviceable Limits
Weld cracks Permitted, if they are less than 0.12 inch (3.0 mm) in length. They must not go into
the basic metal. There must be more than 2.0 inches (50.8 mm) between each weld
crack.
Cracks in the basic metal Permitted, less than 0.06 inch (1.5 mm) in length. They must not go into the basic
metal. There must be more than 6.0 inches (152 mm) between each crack.
Dents Permitted, if they have a smooth contour and less than 0.12 inch (3.0 mm) in depth.
The dents must have a minimum separation of 2.0 inches (50.8 mm).
