(a) Apply a light layer of petroleum jelly, D50223 [C02-008] to the new packing.
(b) Install the packing on the groove on the outer diameter of the oil seal.
(c) Lubricate the inner diameter of the empty adapter pad with oil, D00068.
(d) Bend the oil seal three times to make it loose (and easy to install).
(e) Apply a light layer of oil, D00068 to the face of the oil seal and the face of the mating ring.
CAUTION
YOU MUST BE CAREFUL WITH THE PACKING WHEN YOU INSTALL IT.
THE PACKING IS EASILY CUT AND CAN GO OUT OF ITS POSITION
DURING INSTALLATION. IF THE PACKING IS NOT IN ITS POSITION OR
HAS DAMAGE, LEAKS WILL OCCUR.
(f) Align the oil seal with the gearbox studs.
(g) Carefully push the oil seal into the bore of the adapter pad.
(h) Apply pressure on the oil seal until it engages with the adapter pad.
(i) Install the nuts on the studs.
1) Tighten the nuts to 55-70 pound-inches (6.2-7.9 newton meters).

(5) Close the thrust reversers (PAGEBLOCK 78-31-00/201).
