(j) If the center vent tube has an extension, do the steps that follow to install the two
preformed packings:
1) Use hose clamps to compress the preformed packings.
2) Put the preformed packings on dry ice until they are compressed.
3) Lubricate the preformed packings with oil, D00552 [C02-019].
4) Install the two preformed packings in two of the three preformed packing grooves on
the rear of the center vent tube. Keep the center preformed packing groove empty.
(k) If the center vent tube does not have an extension, do the steps that follow to install the
preformed packings:
1) Use hose clamp to compress the preformed packing.
2) Put the preformed packing on dry ice until compressed.
3) Lubricate the preformed packing with oil, D00552 [C02-019].
4) Install the preformed packing in the farthest rear packing groove on the rear end of
the center vent tube.

(l) Put the center vent tube in its position on the fan mid shaft.
(m) Align the threads of the center vent tube with the threads of the fan midshaft.
(n) Use the center vent tube wrench, SPL-6711 for the center vent duct (with extensions) to
install the center vent tube.
1) Tighten the tube until the vespel inserts are fully engaged with the threads of the fan
midshaft.
(o) Loosen the center vent tube until the threads are fully disengaged.
(p) Tighten the center vent tube again.
1) Make a record of the run-on torque value.
(q) Add the run-on torque value to 1200-1400 pound-inches (135.6-162.7 newton meters) to
find the total torque value.
1) The total torque value must not be more than 1800 pound-inches (203.4 newton
meters).
(r) Tighten the center vent tube to the total torque value.
(s) Use the retainer rings to install the locking tab ring on the coupling nut.

(6) Do the task to install the No. 1 bearing manifold.

(7) Remove the locking strap set from the fan rotor.
