(a) Look down and forward at the N0. 7 trailing edge of the fan frame strut (at the 6 o'clock
position).
(b) Examine the radial aft weld on the strut fairing for signs of wet oil.
(c) Look for puddles of wet oil at the bottom of the strut.
(d) Look aft and examine the inlet guide vanes and stage 1 blades for wet oil or brown oil
stains.
(e) Examine the split line area in front of the inner shroud of the inlet guide vane.
NOTE: Wet oil on the above areas can be a result of oil leakage from the "A" sump. It
can also be a result of a engine "hung start" or no fan rotation (without any fault
in the lube system).

(10) Use the borescope at ports B1-1 through B1-6 to look for oil leakage as follows:
(a) Slowly turn the engine core while you look for the conditions that follow:
1) Look for oil leakage out of the drain holes in the 1st stage disk.
2) Look for wet oil on the nuts and shroud.
(b) Move the probe to the outer direction to examine the stage 1 blades and vanes, and the
stage 2 blades.
1) Look for signs of wet oil and brown oil stains.
NOTE: If you find signs of oil (with no signs of oil on the inlet guide vanes, or
forward), this can be a result of leakage from a damaged seal or a loose
spline retainer on the drive spline of the inlet gearbox.
SUBTASK 72-00-00-086-122-G00
(11) Remove the borescope.
SUBTASK 72-00-00-416-165-G00
CAUTION
MAKE SURE THAT THE BORESCOPE PLUGS ARE INSTALLED IN THE
CORRECT PORT LOCATIONS. ENGINE DAMAGE CAN OCCUR IF A
BORESCOPE PLUG IS NOT INSTALLED IN THE CORRECT LOCATION.
(12) Do the steps that follow to install all the borescope plugs that were removed:
(a) Apply a light layer of compound, D00004 to the threads and the pressure face.
1) Use of these anti-seize compound:
(b) Install the borescope plugs in the ports.
(c) Tighten the plugs to the torque values shown in Table 601.
(d) Install lockwire.
SUBTASK 72-00-00-416-010-G00
(13) If it is necessary, do the steps that follow to put the airplane to its usual condition:
NOTE: Do not do these steps if you will continue the inspection at this time.
(a) Remove the equipment that you used to turn the N2 rotor (PAGEBLOCK 72-00-00/201).
