WARNING
OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PROCEDURE TO OPEN THE THRUST
REVERSERS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS, INJURIES TO
PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(2) Open the left thrust reverser (TASK 78-31-00-002-118-G00 or TASK 78-31-00-002-116-G00).
NOTE: Enhanced maintenance practices should be used when you do this operation.
Enhanced maintenance practices include one over one inspections, hardware
accountability, use of a caution streamer and tooling accountability. Extensive engine
damage can occur from the tooling not removed or from hardware not correctly
installed.

(1) Remove the lower coverplate from the bottom of the transfer gearbox.

(2) Remove the plug from the bottom of the transfer gearbox.

CAUTION
FIELD EXPERIENCE HAS SHOWN THAT A CAUTION STREAMER IS
NECESSARY, TO REMIND MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL, TO INSTALL THE
MOTORING PAD COVER PLATE AFTER A BORESCOPE INSPECTION OF
THE CORE. IF THE COVERPLATE IS NOT INSTALLED, THE FASTENERS
ARE NOT CORRECTLY TORQUED, OR THE O-RING IS NOT CORRECTLY
INSTALLED, THERE WILL BE A RAPID OIL LOSS TO THE ENGINE. AN IN-
FLIGHT SHUT DOWN OR EXTENSIVE ENGINE DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
(3) Install the borescope caution streamer, SPL-6917 on a transfer gearbox drive pad.

(4) Install a 0.5 inch (13 mm) square drive (with extension) into the drive pad location at the
bottom of the transfer gearbox.
(a) Make sure that the extension handle (when turned) does not touch the access cover
plate studs.

CAUTION
DO NOT USE MORE THAN 350 POUND-FEET (475 NEWTON-METERS) OF
TORQUE ON THE HAND CRANKING AT THE N2 ROTOR OR DAMAGE TO
THE ENGINE COMPONENT CAN OCCUR.
(5) Turn the engine core as needed.

(6) Remove the square drive and the extension.

(7) Install the plug in the bottom of transfer gearbox.
(a) Tighten the plug to 540-600 pound-inches (61.0-67.8 Newton-meters).

(8) Remove the borescope caution streamer, SPL-6917 on the transfer gearbox drive pad.
