CAUTION
MAKE SURE THAT THE PARTS, TOOLS AND LOOSE PARTICLES DO NOT
FALL INTO THE COMPRESSOR REAR FRAME. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE
TO THE ENGINE.
(3) Do the steps that follow to remove a damaged insert:
(a) Use the removal data (Figure 801) to find the drill bit dimension and depth that is
necessary to remove the damaged insert.
NOTE: For the equipment that use in this task, refer to Figure 801 and Figure 802 for the
correct dimensions.
(b) Use hand drill, STD-297 to drill into the damaged insert to the correct depth.
(c) Use the small standard punch, STD-3908 to push the keys of the insert to the inner
direction.
1) Break off the keys.
(d) Refer to the removal data (Figure 801) to make a selection of the necessary screw
extractor kit, STD-322 and broach tool, STD-6559.
(e) Use the screw extractor kit, STD-322 to lightly hit (and remove) the damaged insert.
(f) Use the broach tool, STD-6559 to clean the key slots of the hole.
1) Align the broach tool, STD-6559 with the key slots of the hole.
2) Use a ball-peen standard hammer, STD-1242 (8-ounce) to push the broach tool,
STD-6559 into the hole until it is fully engaged.
(g) Make a selection of a replacement insert that is the same size as the removed insert.
(h) Do the steps to install the insert.

(4) Do the steps that follow to repair a hole that has damaged threads:
(a) Make a selection of a insert (Figure 802 and Figure 803) that has the same internal
thread size as the damaged hole.
(b) Make a selection of a bit (Figure 802 and Figure 803) that is slightly smaller that the
insert thread dimension.
(c) Drill the damaged hole.
1) Tap drill the hole to the correct dimensions.
(d) Make a selection of the necessary broaching tool (Figure 801).
(e) Use the broaching tool to make the key slots in the hole.
1) Align the broaching tool in the hole.
2) Use a ball-peen hammer to push the broaching tool into the hole until it is fully
engaged.

(5) Do the steps that follow to install the insert:
(a) Put the new insert in the hole.
1) Tighten the insert with your fingers.
(b) Align the keys of the insert with the broached key slots of the hole.
